Wear the Mark

I grew up in Southern California where I spent the majority of my childhood playing outside. I love building and was always constructing something: forts, ramps, legos, you name it. My father was quick to teach me about business and technology.

School was always my last priority but I squeaked by without too many problems, and devoted my time to playing music. Performing was a chance to devote myself to something greater and meet all kinds of interesting people.

It was my responcibility to built the website for the band, in a time before most small businesses even had websites. I had a couple jobs at print shops and small businesses building websites and designing for print. Work became my biggest priority. It stayed this way for a few years until I moved up to Mammoth Lakes for a year of snowboarding and hiking.

My priorities changed again and my focus shifted towards an appreciation of nature and the arts. I performed in a commercial for Sneux shoes, and financed my artwork by building websites. This included investing in everything I needed to start tattooing. After a year of self-discovery with the tattoo machine – on myself and my very supportive and crazy friends – I was introduced to Jim Hayek who agreed to apprentice me in tattooing.

I followed Jim's every move for a few months, and began tattoing regularly with his guidance. I got very restless and was looking for answers. So I hit the road. For a little over a year I drove through the deserts, mountains, and valleys of the western United States. Along the way I tattooed my friends that had spread out across California and Arizona. Eventually I had enough work to keep me consistently working between Santa Rosa, CA, Gilbert, AZ, and Los Angeles, CA. It was a two week rotation between cities and there were many adventures in between.

In 2008, I built my first studio in Thousand Oaks, California. My studio is a central place for me to focus and work on many different projects. When I'm not tattooing, it's not uncommon to find me writing and recording music, editing video, painting, drawing, or rearranging the paintings hanging on the walls.

I am currently tattooing by appointment with referral only, in my private studio in Thousand Oaks. I am hard to get a hold of, and appologize for my inaccessability at times. As is the nature of the artist they say. If you need to reach me the best way is by emailing, Nate.Siggard@gmail.com.
